Welcome to the website established by the National Steering Committee for implementation of the EU Blood Quality and Safety Directive, 2002/98/EC. The Directive was transposed into Irish law by the European Communities (Quality and Safety of Human Blood and Blood Components) Regulations 2005 on 12th July 2005 (Regulation No. 360 of 2005).
We hope that this site will provide a useful source of information on the parent Directive, Commission Directives and Irish Regulations for staff in blood establishments and hospital blood banks.
